I think he means it is getting a new hi range gear. Most likely jumping out of gear from the low-high left foot changes on the move resulting in worn engaging dogs.

So with the 6x6 it has 4.7 ratio diffs, I believe the 4x4 has 3.5's ? Anyway, top speed is 80km/hr for the perentie 6x6. So when drive 400 or 500 Kms for a BBQ on the weekend, it's gets a bit monotonous. I have been looking at a few different options, new diffs, 6 speed gear box, ect. When speaking with Kevin falconbridge at rover tech in Perth, he suggested put a higher gear ratio in hi-range transfer case to increase top end speed (which he has done for other clients with good results (he said). He told me that with even the 4.7 diffs I should get 100kms/hr out of it at cruising speed, but if I need low range it's still very low !!so as the trans is already being pulled out to fix the oil leak and inspect the syncos(as I always have to go searching for the gears), it's a perfect time to change the high range gear ratio
Now I've seen in here people saying that if you start changing ratio's, you won't be able to take off from a start position. So to combat that I've been in touch with United fuel injection in red cliff Perth and had a chat to.... I forget his name, but he did all the R&D for the SAS LRPV engines as they had the same complaint as I. The most efficient way to get the power was to keep the 4BD1T engine (they out performed the Brunswick V8) and change the exhaust manifold, new turbo, large intercooler, 2.5" exhaust and replace the fuel pump cam. Will change the torque from standard 200nm to 400nm+. He said even tho advertised at 90kw the most he ever saw in a vehicle on dyno was 72kw. So for 5k I can double my power and not compromise engine reliability, increase fuel economy, lower EGT and move peak torque from 2800rpm to 1900rmp!!
Now I'm new to this site and only have a smart phone so please forgive my fumbling ways. Still trying to work it all out. It's quiet the challenge !!
Regards,
Tristan
G'Day Tristan.
Thanks mate

Correct, the 6x6 has 4.7 diff ratios, and the 4x4 has 3.54 ratios. But both have a standard transfer case High ratio of 0.996 and a low of 3.321. YOU ALREADY have 0.996 high gears, and there is no higher option available for the LT95.
100Km/h is pushing the upper limits of comfort in a 6x6. The noise will be quite uncomfortable and hearing protection is recommended. 80-90ks would be preferable.
Increasing engine performance is nice and you can always do with more, but an engine turning at 3200rpm at 95km/h is still turning at 3200rpm if it's putting out 400Nm. The power/torque increase will make driving more pleasant and you will get to your top speed quicker, but you won't change your top speed without addressing gearing.
Another member on this site has fitted 4.11 diff gears and found that to be suitable, and I have gone for 255/85-16 tyres. While both of these are cheaper solutions than the turbo upgrade you have mentioned, they still cost a couple of thousand dollars (app $3000) for a minor increase in cruising speed.
top speed should be better than 80km/hr for a stock 6x6. all the variants I drove sat on 100km/hr that was three years ago. I'm thinking there something not quite right with your, cable/adjustment. our stock GMV would do 105km/hr on the all day screaming its head off.
when we supported the bushmaster trial we tweeked and dyno'd our GMV's which was running over GVM >5500kg so that we could keep up with the trial vehicles and support cruisers. rumour was the project had also trialled an auto in the 6x6 but we could never confirm it. Turned the fuel screw up, fitted straight through exhaust (might have been mandrel bent), removed the inner air filter and left the filter housing end cover off...........when I jumped in at the Darwin foro the return leg I couldn't believe how much more drivable the rig was, we could overtake cars, take off on hill etc. we sat on 110/115 all the way back to Brisbane. The mods only lasted until MAS did there next round and we were ordered to return them back to standard.
i'm not sure if you will ever load her up to 5500kg, but if you put taller gears I reckon you will be riding the clutch when you are not on the flat or use low range to get rolling.
I will second that!. I you have seen the size of the hi range gear on the centre diff you will know that it would probably be impossible to make a smaller gear. The 0.996 gear has been known to disintegrate at the splines due to lack of strength, I would imagine a smaller one again would not last long especially pushing the weight of a 6by.

Hello weeds,
I actually went over a weigh bridge the other day with "some" bricks in the back and hit 7.9ton. I was amazed at how well the 6x6 handled with 4.5tin on the back !!
As for doing 105kms/hr, mine will do that, but as you say, it will be screaming it's head off and I don't want to murder my baby !!' and I've checked the speedo against the god and I think 110 on the speedo is 100km it real time.
So really prob keep playing with it till I get it right
