That is the most important thing. Talk to your engineer that is approved by the registration authority in your state.

I like that option but the tub (boxes) in the back of a perentie or any pre 2007 defender/110 are a different design and the seats would not fit without modification to the seat frames or boxes. I would imagine that this would drasticlly increase the engineering requirements.

NSW allows inward facing. I had 4 seat belts installed a few months back, engineer certified, rego updated now to 6 seater.

    hi JCR,

it was done by Mobility Engineering at Hornsby. cost 330 per seatbelt installed plus about 300 or so for the engineering certificate. that also included padding on all the bars anywhere near a passenger's head. they do the work then send you the cert (and also straight to RMS i think). then you just get a new rego cert printed and its done. easy company to deal with.

that money might seem a lot given the original cost of the vehicle but it has really opened up how much more i can use my truck; dad and now two kids going fishing or mtn biking, taking whole family in landy now instead of swmbo's boring pajero, mum taking child and four friends to soccer training in "dad's cool army truck" etc etc

after talking with Morry at Mobility we settled on 4 seatbelts and thats really all i need. six would have had the centre passengers with their head right next to the vertical metal frame, 8 is also doable but i think that means 2 vehicle inspections per year because at 10 seats in total its now effectively a people carrier or bus and it would also be very cramped in there.

be aware that sideways seats are less than ideal for safety and there is plenty of commentary on this forum about this matter. so far the majority of our trips with people in the back have been local trips mostly on minor roads (yes, yes i know that doesnt guarantee you wont have a crash); i'd be reluctant to go on freeway or other higher speed roads or long distances with people in the back. i'm sure others will add their opinions to this.

anything else you need let me know
