    isuzu air cleaner

I took the air cleaner off my perentie the other day to give it a blow out and check elements -they were okay but the dump valve was full of crap so cleaned that out- I've reinstalled it but can feel air blowing out the top cover-is there meant to be a rubber o-ring seal under the cover? the wing nut is done up tight but it's not properly sealed.

Loosen it off and have another go a repositioning the end cap. No rubber seal.

Dont worry about it, it is normal and is caused by the cyclone or whirling effect of the intake air as it passes the outer element which has plastic angled fins on the outside to create this effect. As RAR110 says reposition the cap to achieve the best fit. Put a small white paint mark on both cover and housing to ensure you get it right next time.

Don't overtighten the wingnut though, it is a relatively soft metal and will strip!

thanks for that- should have done the white mark trick in hindsight as have loosened and repositioned in a few different spots but still doing the same but if it's no probelm will leave it-was worried i might be creating a vacuum leak but seems to be blowing out rather than sucking.

They don't seem to last long for me. So I welded up the opening and just wipe the inside out occasionally.
