So it has an LT95? Does it sound like a bearing rattle? If so, I expect that's your answer. It's not an "engine" noise though.
LT95 + Isuzu are well known for their "clutch rattle" as it usually gets called.
How am I doing?
I've done quite a bit of searching, but have not found anyone asking this question, so here goes. BTW - I have only had my FFR for 3 or 4 days, and never driven another Isuzu engined LR.
When at a standstill idling, there is a distinct noise change going from clutch in to clutch out.
With foot on the clutch, it is rattly like a normal 4 cyl diesel, but when I take my foot off of the clutch, there is a bit of a different sound, a little louder and more rattly than when it is in.
It doesn't really sound nasty or anything, but it is definitely noisier with my foot off of the clutch.
Is this normal on an Isuzu Landie? What would it be?
Thanks
David

						Buyer's remorse!
Yep Judo - it has an LT95A gearbox I believe. I was assuming it was something to do with the clutch or gearbox, and not the engine.
If it is well known that they rattle a bit more with the clutch out, then that is fine with me.
Its normal, but try not to let it idle for extended periods with the clutch out as it doesn't do the gearbox any good.
If I have to sit stationary with mine (eg stuck in traffic or at lights etc) I usually leave it in neutral, foot off the clutch but hold the revs up slightly. Doesn't take much to take most of the clatter out.
I've heard people say that turning the idle up a bit helps too.
Have a search/read on torque impulse if you want to know whats actually happening.

at least the 6 x 6 can drown out the gearbox noise with the siren...
They definitely are noisy, compared to my 300TDi and PUMA. And quite a bit slower!
Am enjoying driving it a LOT
Can't really leave it anywhere though, as it doesn't yet have an ignition key, so I'm a bit worried someone else might jump in and drive off with it. Hopefully the lock/key I ordered will arrive tomorrow.
Mine rattles a lot more in neutral. Clutch pedal pressed and noise disappears. I assumed it was the throw out bearing. But I know close to zip about clutches and gear boxes.
I understand most set ups avoid this rattle by attaching the throw out bearing to the clutch fork/pivot arm with a spring to stop it rattling on the shaft.
