Thread: - Perentie 28V Alternator

Just curious, but what use could be made of a 28v alternator? could it be converted to generate 240v to use when we have power outages or for camping . Maybe use as it is, but pump it through an inverter to get practical power options, but then, are there 28v to 240v inverters?
Maybe the troops came up with creative uses for 28v

they can be tweaked up to pump 160A and they can easily cope with 32V delivery... DC....

can anyone else say Perfect onboard welder?

yes they can also be field tapped for AC but you're better off using them to deliver Dc into an inverter with a good battery as a buffer.

Im more curious as to what version of perentie yours came out of and what you plan on doing with the space the 24v system took up.

I've pulled it put of my survey FFR van. The plan is to use the space for an A/C compressor at some stage but there's a lot of other stuff to do first!

the setting on that alternator should be for 40A@28.8V theres a jumper wire inside on the regulator that from memory (Dont got the emei in front of me) that should let you set it to 40,80 or 100A

depends on what you had them in...

the amps rating was changed to match the battery configuration to stop from cooking the bateries and or wiring.

in armored vehicles they were always set up for max amps. the mogs had them set on the middle setting and the macks and landies had them on the low setting (remember the macks were air start and the FFR wiring for charging batteries wasnt massive, as the dist box was setup for external charging if you were doing a protracted job)

of course what they were ment to be and what they were.....
