As it is, exhausts out the rear are not compulsory, there are many adr compliant methods of side exit under specific circumstances.

Sorry. You're right. It wasn't an ADR, it was a VSI. VSI 26 - Roadworthiness Requirements.

67hartop's post reminded me that I had read somewhere that exhaust gasses in the passenger compartment was a big no no.
Maybe it's OK in South Australia and Perth, but I doubt it.
Anyway, an exhaust oultet out the back on a 4x4 Perentie soft top is unroadworthy in Victoria as it allows exhaust gasses to enter the passenger compartment and any licensed RWC assessor who tells me it is I will challenge.

Note: My registered and roadworthy Perentie's exhaust exits from the side.

I was talking to the guy who produces The B.M.C.Experence mag. on the weekend at All British Day Brisbane & he was telling me he will have an article in the next issue of the Mag on the Perentie Landrover.:)

Sems like SA registration is a bit hit and miss.

I just went through Regency and they said I need to change my exhust (expected that one) but also need to cut off the from lift loops as they stick out from the bull bar too far.

Anyone else had an issue with these?

No, they don't need to be cut off. If you are a MV enthusiast and want it original, I'd fight it. If you want to civilianise it, what have you lost by cutting it off?

I would fight with the inspector about removing them.

Fit a temporary bar or maybe temporarily bolt a big piece of channel over them across the centre. Guttering might work. Attach your no plate to the channel. It will look ugly but addresses the concern.

This should be fun to register in South Australia lol.

Looks like the army was into rebirthing vehicles.

What a beast. That wont be regoed anywhere. It doesent comply to any design rules going by the compliance plate. It'll be a farm hack or museum piece :(:(

I am looking at getting perentie at auction, will the rego process in Adelaide be:
1. Take it to Naweena St for the numbers checks
2. Get an appointment and take it to Kateena St to go for a full inspection
2. Once both above steps complete, get plates and register


I assume it has to have the full inspection as it 'hasn't been rego'd in Aus before', whereas if I purchased one from a private owner who has it registered interstate, it would only need the numbers check.


I had to do both steps above when I registered a Bonneville m/cycle that came in from the US.
