Thread: Perentie 6x6 technical -mechanical

OEX do a aftermarket one which I have purchased for my perentie. Same as the 110 version. The bloke told me that OEX discontinued the model so I'm not much Help.

What is it doing? Usually You can fix them pretty easy unless the Bendix (thing that pulls the lever for the cog to fly out) is stuffed.

I'll have a look for the part number in the RPS tomorrow.

Hi Brian, engine won't start at times, have to nudge solenoid with hammer as it is sticking. I have a 1996 model 6x6, but no part numbers or plates on starter or solenoid, so having trouble finding replacement solenoid. Cheers

You can pull your solenoid apart and clean up the terminals and put it back together again. I would recommend doing this before yours did what mine did and stuck on and wouldn't stop cranking till I disconnected the battery! The starter can be repaired easily enough but I could not find a way to repair bendix. Are you referring to the long thing on the side of the starter or the smaller round thing thats a bit bigger than an oreo biscuit? The small one is the solenoid. The one attached to the starter itself is the Bendix solenoid.

The starter is a Mitsubishi Electric unit, and I am led to believe it was also used on some Mitsubishi Canter models. The same parts have Mitsy and Isuzu part numbers.

I think we need to do a tech article for rebuilding the Perentie starter, as it seems to be a common failure on many of the vehicles after sitting unused for a while. I had no luck sourcing a new starter, closest source was in the US, so went for a 2nd hand unit to get me going and will tear down the old one to see what's gone wrong.

I have the mitsubishi type in a million pieces in the workshop. I replaced mine with the OEX one. I could not repair the Bendex after the starter solenoid stuck on and melted everything.

We had to replace the starter after flying into Darwin to pick up a 6x6cargo
And drive back to Sydney we got 6 starts on the old one drove into the auto electrician took it out ourselves had a new one in 1 hour on the road and drove to Sydney in 4 days
