Thread: Civy 110 differences

I think the big ones are the galvanized chassis and the relatively low mileage and army servicing. Most of the other stuff won't make much difference for your average punter in my opinion. What made you decide to sell? You always put up the best pics of the perentie in action!

Well the civy Isuzu 110's are getting old so there aren't as many around f you're comparing to all 110's the Isuzu motor would have to be the most desirable option for many given its simplicity, longevity and bottom end grunt. The army LT95 gearbox had a roller bearing mod to handle the Isuzu, this is something the civy isuzus didn't have. I'm pretty sure there's a thread on here somewhere that spells out all the differences.

I sold a Civvy 1985 County Isuzu about 2 years ago for $8500. It was a 4 door, power steering, air conditioning, wind up windows, carpet & additional sound proofing, LT95 with taper bearings twin batteries & McNamara rear diff lock & h/d axles, cargo barrier, seat covers centre console, 120 litre fuel tank - admittedly with 385,000klm but in good nick, so I ask the reverse question every Perentie wagon I see sell for 14k & over.

Having a cheap Isuzu powered County now with taper roller bearing LT95 and enough bits to bolt a PTO winch on, I think i'd rather a well looked after (or fixed up) County than a Perentie. If the chassis on the County isn't rusty and you aren't launching boats then there isn't much going for the Perentie that can't be bolted on for a lot less than the price difference between civvy and ex-mil.
Chances are by now a County is going to have a few upgrade items (decent tyres/rims, cargo barrier, roof rack, LR fuel tank, 12V dual battery, HD axles as potential examples) that the 'clean sheet' ex-mil doesn't have, and for the typical 4WDer these things are far more useful than aerial mounts, tropical roof, steyr mounts and tool brackets. Heck I haven't been bothered to use my gardening tool brackets on my FFR yet!
Kilometers aren't the foe of the Isuzu, though everything else feels the wear and tear, but a well maintained or ideally rebuilt drive train will last a long time in the civvy equivalent anyway.

One thing going for yours is a potential buyer can drive it before purchase, can't do that at the auctions.

Yes, I find it crazy that people would spend such a premium on an ex-mil vehicle when the civvy equivalent is more practical for more people. You could do a lot of upgrades on a County for the price difference, a LOT!
Don't be alarmed though, there are plenty of people that 'just want one' which is why I bought my FFR.

Thankfully I have use for both a five door wagon and a 2 door soft top so my FFR and County are both earning their keep in my little fleet
