I see plenty of information on the 2 door Perenties. But what's the story on the 4 door 9 seater wagons?
This is ultimately the only configuration that would be useful to me. What is the official title, what is the spec and how many are there for sale or already sold?
Any info appreciated. This is research for a long term project.
Ahhhh I remember saying those exact words too. Then I saw they were selling at the grays auctions for around $20-25k. So I decided to buy a County and deal with it.
I think the number of them made is floating about here somewhere in another thread. Will take a look when I'm not on my phone if no one else replies.
Only the Personnel Carrier had 9 seats (to my knowledge), although it was not registered for all 9. The only real difference is that the Senior Commanders have a winch and fittings for radio equipment. I believe all bar one Senior Commander are sold, and the vast majority of Personnel Carriers are too. There were 11 Senior Commanders and 38 Personnel Carriers.
Ah bugger. I was hoping the numbers of 38 and 11 weren't correct.
Clearly the odds of picking one up cheap enough to warrant the work aren't good. The total bill would come close to used D4 money.
I was planning to grab one, put a usable interior and sound insulation into it, fit the MSA gearbox from my rangie (already has a long-stick conversion and LT230 mounts) and turbo it.
Which would be feasible if I could land one here for $NZ10k. But no point for $NZ30k before the work begins.
Other long term options are pick up a 110 locally or dedicating the 300tdi soft-dash rangie to work purposes.
So would that mean the price of the Personnel carriers will go up while the GS goes down due to volume available?
Personnel Carriers and Senior Commanders have been 2.5 - 3 times more expensive than the average GS/FFR. I don't know whether that gap would increase, but I tend to doubt it. There are only a handful left though, so it'll be a very volatile market. Unfortunately Dougal there's no chance anyone will get a wagon for reasonable money - they are collectibles.
If you want a work vehicle, get a GS and slap a cab on it like mine has at the moment. Immensely practical, not as comfy as a Rangie though!

If it was that sort of work vehicle that'd be perfect. But I need a back seat and the 4dr wagon would have been ideal. But since there are such low numbers I'm not going to turn a collectable into something else.
Ooo you lucky bastard! Well I can't talk, I do have a Personnel carrier, but I bet a few people will be jealous!
You should start a new thread and add some more full size detailed photos. I would be curious at the differences between our trucks and I'm sure others would like a proper gander.
