Thread: 20 litre Perentie "Water" Cans

Most probably going to be ok, but why not just grab a couple of new red ones for $20 a pop next time repco has them on special?

You can get the right size cans which are Pro-Quip Plastic jerry cans. From what I have seen there are the green water (not for fuel), a lighter green for Diesel, Red for ULP and also a yellow for diesel. I have one of the lighter green for diesel and have seen them at Repco, SuperCheap and Bursons.

If your asking whether the Army Water Jerries are suitable the answer is definitely no.

I cannot see why you couldn't if you were in a bind........personally I would buy the appropriate colour myself

ARMY jerries are constructed as good as any of the cheap fuel jerries you can buy........thick plastic, seal.......I suppose there is some Australian standard that needs to be stamped on the jerry

G'Day Rust. The water jerries are not a 'Perentie' item.
To a military vehicle collector, they are worth twice the value of a correct fuel jerry.
Sell them and buy the proper ones.

The "water" jerries are just that. They are for water only. They have not changed since the 60's and predate the Perentie vehicles, as you call them, by 20 years.
I am not aware of any fuel jerries made of plastic even though the "rhelm" plastic ones are more durable.

Their seals are rubber and not thread like a fuel can and would be eaten by the contents.

And the water jerries leak like a sieve, when you carry them you end up with more water in your pack and over your back then in the container, not so bad when its water but fuel, buy the civvie ones.

Rust, I don,t know about all these different colors for jerries. But I have black extra heavy duty plastic fuel jerries that are much stronger than any type you can buy today
