    Fitout for 48206 - storage and sleeping

    I am in process of fitting out my Perentie for an extended camping trip. After seeing Aussie Jeepster's storage I thought you might like to see my solution.

    I have fitted a tarp to the roof rack which folds out to the back and side to cover a 12'x12' area with 6 extendable pole supports. I was fortunate to find one with an army green underside and a silver top to reflect heat.

    Inside I have mounted a second spare wheel up against the bulkhead which also gives a little more security to the cabin area and it sits on a lockable box for storing valuables. The rest of the floor area is covered by 4 metal storage boxes which fit neatly up to the seat bases.

    A mattress rolls over the top of these to make a level sleeping area with the seats as the edges. The back 2 boxes contain cooking gear and food and the front two have clothes and personal gear in one and spare parts etc. in the other. The back 2 are easily lifted out leaving a sitting area in poor weather. I have a LED roof light running off the inspection light plug and am making 3x 6' long 100mm PVC pipe water containers to slide under the seats alongside the boxes. This will provide approx. 45 litres of water.

    I'd want to squeeze an innerspring mattress in there Nothing like being comfortable!

    Hi Beast

    Nothing fancy with the spare wheel mount. I just sit on top of a 7" high metal box and has a strap around the stretcher mounts hooking into the wheel nut holes. I expect I will have to put a retaining strap right round the tyre if the going gets really rough but the stretcher mounts make a strong anchor point.

    To be honest I also have a 5cm high density memory foam topper that can cover the whole area but will roll back tightly against the spare wheel during travel.

    Not wanting to hi-jack your thread, but our 110 Isuzu County 5 door, I remove the back seat, attach the frame that I made this allows you to place a full size double bed mattress made from Hi-density foam, very comfortable, also I made 2 removable fly screens that attach to the rear door tops with a couple of small clips = no mossies on a hot night, also have 2 fans that fit up in the rear corners of the H/top that can blow cool air on you, no images sorry, anyway mate enjoy your ex army 110 cheers Dennis

    just make sure that wheel is well secured; you dont want that thing coming loose and flying around inside!!

    i wonder is someone clever could fab a proper bracket to mount an extra spare on in the same place you've put yours, ideally one that is easily removable, or maybe even a bracket to mount an extra spare on one of the jerry can holders on the back..... if so, i'd buy one, plus of course i'd want a piece of all the other sales; you heard that idea here first!!
