    Unable to select low ratio

Hi, I just used my winch (pto Thompson) on Perentie for the first. All went well, until I tried to drive the car forward. The high low ratio gear stick is just 'floating' ie doesn't engage into anything. I continued to 'jiggle' it and managed to get it into high range. But now the stick is just lose.

Have had a quick search and I think I might have broken the linkage?

    Any pointers would help

    Rgds

Lift the rubber boot on both gearsticks and have a look there first. There is a roll pin on the transfer lever where it joins the cross shaft that may have broken or come out. You should also be able to see the linkage rod on the passenger side. If everything looks ok there next place to check is the bracket on the side of the transfer where the linkage rod goes to. It also has a roll pin through it. If all good so far the only other place to look is the selector finger inside the transfer. To check this you will have to remove the rifle butt plate from in between the seats and undo the cover on the top of the transfer case. With the cover plate off you can see whats happening with the selector finger and cross shaft. The 13mm pinch bolt may have come loose. If this is ok there is a fibre spacer in between the finger and the transfer case which occasionally disintegrates and allows the finger to come out of the selector and hence no gear selection. Hopefully this should sort you out

Brian, many many thanks for your advice. You were bang on the money. The roll pin had popped out. Managed to get it back in and all working as it should be.
