Thanks to everyone. I'm sum what of a tragic as this will be the 3rd defender I have owned, I'm currently driving around in a 130 only purchased early this year. Not as bad as some others I know but I'm getting there. Being recently retired from the forces I might go down the road of ANZAC spirit.

well this should seriously test the relationship .. selling the 130 or going for broke
I know the situation well, I had a few years of GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome), got out of control completely at one point and I had guitars being shipped to all my mates and then sneaking them into the house when 'she who must be obeyed' was out shopping. There is only so many wardrobes and beds to hide them in one house. Drove the kids up the wall.
Luckily I stopped at 100
Slowly selling them down .. will take me well into my retirement I reckon.
That's why I could relate so easily to your predicament. Weird thing is dad (89) just passed his rock collection (minerals, not the music variety) to me, 6000 specimens, I feel there is something funny going on in our family
So what do you call it, LAS (Landrover Acquisition Syndrome)I do feel some twinges (risk) in buying every piece of recovery and camping gear. 'Danger Will Robinson'
Luckily I did that with my previous 4wd beasts

Good luck. Let us know how you go. When I purchased my Personnel Carrier without 'fully consulting' my missus in July last year she imposed a condition that It must be sold if she wasn't happy with it in 6 months time. I agreed and am happy to report that I'm still the proud owner of this fine piece of machinery. My wife is a good sport and luckily very forgiving!

Buy her a diamond ring, and tell her it came with the ring!
As my FFR is my first ever Landy, I made sure to lay the groundwork before purchase. I did not want to be in the position to make a very difficult choice.
Due to my mad skillz in negotiation, I was able to bargain down the value of "compensatory spending" to equal the value of my purchase. Think interstate holiday with lots of spending money. And no grumbling about having chest pains while shopping. (Bugger, she's on to that one).
... OK, so it was still expensive. But at least there is full disclosure and i get to keep my "mistress", as she calls it.
Just pick up the car and I'm happy with the drive, but currently still sitting at the RMS as the vin number isn't coming up on the system. Not happy!!
