    Interpreting REMLR EMEI library

    Gidday,

    As a few of you know I'm looking for a Uni Joint for the front prop shaft but I started this thread coz it may help other Perentie owners. Mainly because sometimes the various parts seem different to me compared to other 110's.

    So I get into REMLR EMEI library and my question is this:

    Is the section 02188 - 110 GS All Variants directly related to the Perenties? If yes, then Perentie 110 owners are in the right area...

    So I go to that EMEI (if it's correct) and in Part 4 I find the Uni Joint kit I think I need. So I google the part number RTC3346 and discover that it's a "Propshaft universal joint 82mm to the Land Rover Series 2a and 3 and also early Defender to vin CA252578.

    That's where Perentie land nearly always stops making sense because my vin is in the SALLDHAZ1FF category. So my final question is this: Who do we trust for matching parts. Is it the EMEI or 1989 Defenders?

    I just happen to have a few RTC3346's on the desk. They are the same uni as used in RRC, 101 and very probably the Perentie, Discovery 1 and probably a few more models.

    Repair Parts Scale (RPS) 02188 is the "baseline" (Cargo Variant without winch) parts document for Perentie 110 vehicles. Additional/different parts on other variants are covered by RPS supplements to this document. Group HA in 02188 covers the drive shafts with RTC3346 listed as the part number for the UJ Kit. This number can be cross checked in Microcat to see which other Landrovers use this part. Perentie VINs entered into microcat will just show as a 110 with no other detail.

    Thanks for that Gazk - super informative. And I can 100% confirm that the part number is correct. BUT:

    Here's another classic example of Defender vs Perentie 110 noob interpretation dramas.

    Today I took off the front propshaft and thought bugger it - Instead of wreck the brand new uni's because I'm an idiot, I thought I'd pay a mechanic to press in the new U joints.

    Happy days - then I got a well intentioned phonecall on the side that said the prop shaft splines didn't line up with the match mark and a "we'll line it up" for you... So I consult the Vehicle G103 Unit Repair book and it says, "Match mark the propshaft". So YIPPEE I think.

    Then to double check, I search the Defender forums that nearly all collectively say, "On the front propshaft you need to offset the splines by 30 degrees".

    That was exactly the same offset that the mechanic readjusted - Problem is he can't remember if it was clockwise or anti-clockwise. And again - Who is right and who is wrong? Is it the EMEI or the Forum people?

    The G103 figure 72 shows the front shaft universals phased slightly out of alignment (no angle is given). There is a note to "Ensure that alignment marks on both halves of the shaft are correctly aligned." Figure 73 clearly shows the matchmarks that should be on the parts - seems that they are marked to be put together in only one way.
    Figure 72 and Figure 73 should help the mechanic to get the phasing right.
