Perentie front half shafts

When the Tenix rebuilds were being undertaken, the CV's and axles were replaced with the later weaker Defender type. The axles are also weaker than the County type as they have a step down to suit the Defender CV. This is the axle used on early Discoverys and Defenders which had coarse spline diff centers. I suspect there were some part availability issues by the time the rebuilds were being undertaken, and possibly before.

So don't assume your Perentie has the original (better) County axles and CV's, particularly if it has been through the Tenix process. Most people wont discover this until they break something - its not hard to do...

I think you are wrong on that. Defender shafts and cvs do not fit straight into earlier casings, disco parts are different again.

I would love to take it somewhere but that at the moment is not a financial option and to be honest im enjoying the learning curve and the expansion of my understanding. no more calling Bluebell.
Best place to buy half shafts in nth Brissy?
Any thoughts, experience or links would be great.

I put an Ashcroft ATB in the front of my county. They only come in 24 spline form, so you have to use different axles. I got them from Hytuff, off the shelf.
The ATB is totally automatic and has no problem with turning full lock under load, as a locker will when locked!
It is well worth the money, with nearly all the benefits of a locker, but none of the drawbacks.

Maybe the casings were replaced also. I did not say that pre '93 (10 spline diff) disco and defender CV's are the same - they are not; however the axles are interchangeable.

The fact remains that some or many 110 Perentie owners are going to find out that their axles and cv's may not be what they expected. I wasn't the first and wont be the last person to find this out the hard way.

Now you have lost me. When the 110 went from the aeu2522 to the defender cv the outer spline on the inner axle shafts changed from 23 spline 1.23" to 31 spline 1" . They are obviously not interchangeable.

Let me put it this way:

A significant number of 110 Perenties do not have:

• 10/23 spline axles and AEU2522 CV's

Rather, they have:

• 10/31 spline axles and Defender CV's both of which are weaker

The downgrade was undertaken during rebuilds, probably because of parts availability.

As you probably know, 10/31 spline axles were used on early Discoveries and 200 Tdi Defenders. 10/31 Disco and Defender axles are interchangeable(same part No.s RTC6754/5)

I would suggest replacing what you have that is broken with a stock unit. It was most likely damaged some time before you purchased the vehicle. Run it for now but save up to have someone who knows what he is doing to replace both axles and half shafts with the Ashcroft or Hi-Tough ones.. At that time I would suggest also getting the Ashcroft Air Locker. This way you are back on the road.

Looks like yours got the downgrade at some stage in it's life also.
