    Adding comfort to a 6x6

Hi all limited search on my iphone so I thought I would ask here. A mate is considering a 6x6 for a work /promotional vehicle for his business for it's load carrying ability but what needs doing to add some comfort?

I was thinking $800 for sound deadening $1000 for 3 Recaro seats and do they have Aircon? If not how do I add that?

    Cheers Matt .

So is this just the wrong question to ask? Do you just learn to toughen up in a 6x6?

I'd add a coffee cup holder. What more do you need?

    G'Day Matt.
That list looks good. I'd add a little extra boost/ fuel to the equation.
The AC can be added in a few ways.
I have seen one setup using a muscle car type aftermarket system.
Just need brackets and piping made up to adapt the system.
    Approx$1-2K for it.
    Cheers, BDave.

Yeah there are lots of aftermarket RV, Caravan and Truck A/C systems available that are fairly reasonable especially if you buy the gear out of the states. I don't buy much in Australia anymore we pay 3 or 4 times what the rest of the world does for almost everything...

In my opinion though after driving a 6x6 for over 8 months unless your using it for serious off-road work it's really not a practical vehicle especially around town there are a thousand reasons why. Its incredibly loud even with all the sound deadening in the world. It's impossible to park anywhere in the city, steering is hard, it's vibrates, shudders, rocks and rolls. But the biggest issue is just how slow it is. There are many other reasons as well. In saying all this if your using it off-road everyday it's one of the best toys around. Personally a cheap truck would be a far better vehicle or even one of the Big cheap American pick up imports. Like the F-Series Fords, GMC ect...

    Matt
I've done about 5k km in my 6x6 now, so from that experience,
The standout worst aspect of a 6x6 Perentie is the noise. Without some sound deadening, anything more than a trip to the shops is a pain in the ass and some ear plugs are definitely needed for a long trip.
I changed the original tyres for some Hankook muddies and that quietened it down a lot. I have put some 1" insulation under the seats and between them and that made a fair difference too. To do the job properly I think the whole cab needs stripping out and sound deadener and insulation applied to all surfaces.

A/C would definitely be nice and I will be doing that when I get time.

The seats in my 6x6 are the best seats I've had in any vehicle. period. They are ISRI seats and came with the vehicle direct from the Army. Perhaps some other 6x6's have different seats?

Yeah I've stripped the entire cab and used proper dynamat and another product...
At the end of the day it's not a road vehicle. The turning circle is another big issue around town. Like I said if using as a promo vehicle off-road like a tour company or something, apart from a unimog I don't think you could do much better. But if planning to use it on the road there are far, far better options for that money.
