That's a turbo beanie, stops a lot of turbo heat under the bonnet. I figure it has to help with intake heat reduction when the turbine is mounted in front of the compressor.

Gday Pete, really easy to do, nice quiet muffler about the same size and shape fitted in the same spot. 3" all the way from the turbo dump pipe and uses the same attach points to the chassis. I reckon it goes better now, even sat on 100 coming home from town yesterday and am going to give the fuel screw a little adjustment as well after I get the pyro and boost gauges in, I reckon it will go a lot better then. Definitely seems to rev out more freely now, as you say the original one is too small and probably restricts it.
