Okay all ...i know its something simple .. but ... why is there a wire jammed into my front brake pad of my Perentie .. i bought it a week ago and decided to lie underneath it and saw this ... the cable is tied onto the brake pipe so its meant to go somewhere ... the other side doesn't have the wire ......

SubscriberIt is assumed that both RF and LF wear at the same rate.
The wire is in the pad so that when the pad wears down to the wire depth, it grounds on the disc and Voila! a light comes on on the dash.
There should be one at the back also.
I didn't know they had them . I thought only such poshness as RRCs had them. Ya learn something every day.

the brake wear indicator works by completeing the circuit to the idiot light to the electrical earth of the vhciels, as the pad wears away the wire gets exposed and putting your foot on the brake pushes it against the rotor making the light come on
if it comes on and its not from a short somewhere else it means the operator or the mechanic, frequently both are idiots.

Brilliant .. what else can i find thats different 😊
original pad set had 4 contacts. one each. the wires tired together. The original pads without wire from UK thrown in the bin to increase content.
the parts book showed a wire that forked to each side for 2 inner pads. The story I was told that in service the left side wore out first, depending on who you talked to most favoured the inside pad.
so the contact was fitted for army use to reduce service checking-then the extra wires deleted to reduce cost.
I noticed on my 94 disco that all 4 are connected.

Interesting ... The wire is on the left front .... But ... Surely it's not just jammed in between the pad and rotor ??????
