URGENT!! borrow/buy series 3 or Perentie ignition key and lock for few hours, SA

    Hi fellow enthusiasts,

I urgently need to borrow or buy a LR series 3 or Perentie ignition key and lock in Adelaide or SA for a few hours today Wednesday the 3rd of June. Reason being is I went through ID inspection for rego on my Perentie yesterday and it needs ignition key installed to pass. I just need to install the lock and key, take through Inspection have it passed then can remove it and return it to owner unless someone in SA has one I can buy and leave on permanently. The reason it's urgent is I only have a 3 day permit to drive it without plates and I have a trip planned on Friday. Otherwise I would just buy and install one of the many alternatives available interstate. I'm more than happy to pay a small fee to borrow for the day. I'm sure someone has one laying around or in a vehicle they are not currently driving. I see old series land rovers rotting and rusting away in paddocks and backyards all the time. But the one time I desperately need a simple little part I can't find anything anywhere but that's always the way. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated and I really mean that. Please contact either by email: lot10sales@gmail.com or phone call/txt: 0404 652 726

Can I suggest TRS at Lonsdale?

They have at least 2 perenties I am aware of, and multiple defenders and a smattering of countys, I assume that a county ig set up would be better compatable?

Is it not possible to install a key ignition, tucked out of the way so that it
still isolates the ignition wire but when on you still use the existing start procedure? Would this not comply? Im not sure, just a thought, if out of the way you could install any brand.

Hope it helps or someone can help you.
    Good Luck

How come you need a key? I have licensed many ex mil landis including 2 110's and have never had to to have an ignition key. If the vehicle has complied with ADR's on the compliance plate without a key then none should be required. Some people at licensing centres do not know how to read the the rule book including some in WA.

I've just come across the same issue as bush bandit, after reading this post installed an ignition lock
However after first inspection I needed to
    modify exhaust
    Remove all antenna brackets
Remove front end protrusions (recovery points)

If you're still living in NSW, go to someone else. That's absurd. I can recommend places in the northern part of Sydney if that'd help.

Unfortunately I've moved to South Australia for uni
I've just got home from passing my second inspection only after watching in shock the recovery points being grinded off
I also have some unfortunate news for future perentie owners in South Australia
As of TODAY to pass inspection you will need what has been mentioned in this thread already but you will also need to remove all of the tool mounts on the bonnet (words from the inspection officers)

    F**k that! That is absurd!

What happened to the rule "if it was ok then, its ok now" ?

Is this one of those different rules for different states you seem to have?

I took a GS to Regency Park about 6 months ago.
I had taken the bonnet mounts off, only recause they looked ratty and I was painting them.
I had fitted a key to the ignition.
All the guy did was check the engine number and chassis number, and that was it.
The only thing that became a "talking point" was the (replaced) speedo that showed about 7,000km, but I got in first and told them about it, then showed them the log book which came with the vehicle, and it was a non issue.
He was ex-army so we had a bit of a chat, and he told me he thought I was mad getting it, but then he said it should be great fun and it will never stop.
The whole thing was a total anti-climax to what I was expecting!
I also thought the rules about bits sticking out etc were federal rules, not state - but it seems each little feifdom has to set it's own rules.

I'd love to see something in writing to qualify what the "new" rules are! I bet there is nothing, other than the inspector didn't get one last night!!!
