    MRF Super Traction tyres

Going through the tyre dilemma currently had nearly convinced myself to put MRF super tractions on my RFSV rims these are a 12 or 14 ply bias tube type, has anyone used these?

But with the weight of the RFSV rims thinking I should probably get steel rims & something MT or AT in 235x16, any feedback welcome.

PS: After playing in the sandhills fully laden & am very close to fitting a turbo.

MRF are Indian, be a little careful, some MRF are imported as agricultural tyres not rated for highway use, loads and speed.

Check the tyre sidewall has a DOT approval.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

They don't look too different to my Dunlop Supergrippers 7.50R16

Was at the wholesaler today wasn't told not suitable for highway use, told them what I would be doing eg hwy on black to offroad, they are rated 1405kg load, thanks for the advice will double check the speed rating.

    Hi Chris.

I've had a set of MRF Super Traction bias tyres in 7.50-16 on my 88" Series 1 for years, fitted to a set of tubed-type (ANR5593) 130 rims.

They are - as read from the tyre sidewall - 8 ply, but have a separate notation saying 6 ply tread/4 ply sidewall. The DOT marking says "DOT T9 WY TRA 329"; someone who knows more about tyres than me may be able to interpret this. They are noted "HIGHWAY SERVICE", with a maximum load rating (single) of 2440 lbs @ 60psi and a maximum load rating (dual) of 2140 lbs @ 60psi.

They are a heavy, strong tyre, aggressive tread and pretty noisy on the blacktop. They also have a noticeable "rumble" and vibration when slowing down at lights etc. They do look a bit like the tyres I've seen fitted to the RFSV's. I used to drive the Series 1 as a semi-daily driver so I got used to the noise; (mind you the Series 1 has a lot of other noise to help drown it a bit), but nowadays having the Perentie I generally only rack up 100 or so kms a year - just keeping her ticking over - and they are noticeable noisier than the Perentie's Steel-treks.
Based on my tyre info the Supertractions you are looking at sound like they may be a heavier version.

    Cheers, Dave

Just as a reference, I changed over to Dynamic 16x7 steel rims to run tubeless tyres. picked up some Hankook RF10 235/85r16 tyres for $226ea.

These are more an all-terrain tyre, but they seem to hold up quite well off-road and are very quite on the highway.

For about $1600 odd for 5 rims, 5 tyres and 20 new wheel nuts, it was pretty good value I think.

Hey Chris (Chris78) - I'll be interested to hear what you think of the Hankook RF10's over time; they are on my short list of replacement tyres for my Perentie. They get repeated good reviews and are supposed to wear well.
I'm also considering the Hankook Dynapro MT RT03; they also get good reviews, are supposed to be a good all-rounder (more of an aggressive A/T than an M/T) and wear OK with regular rotation.
    Decisions, decisions.....

So far I am super happy with them. They are much quieter than the old Steeltreks, and seem to grip nicely on the road and highway (nothing off road yet).
Quite good on fuel economy too. I've dropped from 10.1 per 100km down to 9.9 on a mix of 80% traffic 20% highway since I put them on (Measured over 2400 km).
This weekend I did 400km of which only 20 was traffic. Recorded a quite remarkable 8.7 l/100km!
mind you it was just me and the 100kgs of sand I carry in the back to tame the rear.
