    Stained paintwork

Off the back of the great "tools on bonnet" debate, my GS Perentie was fitted with a full set of gardening tools when I purchased it at the Minto auctions.
They'd obviously been there a while, and that in combination with it having come from an East Coast area - Brisbane and/or Townsville I think - has lead to rust stains from the tool heads leaching onto (and into) the polyurethane paint on the bonnet. The tools came off straightaway as I had no need for them there day to day.

Not a big deal, but as I'm intending to surface treat the bonnet I wouldn't mind having a stab at removing or reducing the staining. I don't want to use a regular cutting polish with the matt finish as it would likely gloss the area, so am considering lightly working the areas over with a fine steel wool and water or a detail spray as a first pass.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers, Dave

A scotch brite pad works with rust on the stainless steel bench top. May be worth a try?
