Just posting this for the laughs, and I guess as a PSA for anyone else who is unfortunate enough to have their throttle/accelerator cable snap at 2am on a lonely coastal road with no phone reception to call for help.
Driving home from a fish, I rounded a bend and in the process of up-shifting back to 4th the accelerator pedal suddenly went straight to the floor with no resistance and no response with revs, a quick inspection showed that the cable was still attached to both the throttle on the 4BD1 and the pedal itself, but the cable could be pulled from either end, it had snapped within the actual sheath
Luckily, my old man has a habit of giving me random bits of rope, some of which I had stored in my side bins for gods know what, and I was able to fashion a temporary "hand throttle", attached the loop at the engine, and ran the rope out under the rear right side of the closed bonnet to the driver side window which got me home without problems, not sure if this is a known thing, but I felt pretty proud being able to bush mechanic myself out of a bad situation.
