    FFR tailgate swap

    Hello all.

Following on from a 'what I did...' post, here's one that might be useful for those with an FFR wishing to stick a tailgate on it - if I had the money I'd have a FFR and a GS (or 20) but I don't. That and the (old) dog can't jump over the scalloped section of the FFR, and a tailgate is just handy...

Removal is pretty simple, just drill through a million odd rivets, sweep out piles of dirt, mud and crap from (insert service region) - in my case Enoggera. Access to some rivets and bolts requires the movement of the jerry can holders. Simple.

Fit tailgate (supplied by a couple of beaut fellas and Kean Land Rover enthusiasts at Windsor NSW) and see how much stuffing around you'll have to do to match the paint. I know there's cans of paint available that match the shade perfectly, but the associated (Dangerous Goods) shipping adds a cost I'm not willing to cover.

So, enter hardware Matt Black and Tamiya - Tan and Olive Drab. The OD is a bit dark but it'll probably fade and the amount I had to use doesn't bother me.

Found some pinch weld lying around for the seal and also had to fabricate a number plate light bracket. Lastly was modifying the canvas. I really didn't want to make that change irreversible but had no choice, so cut the extra bit off and pressed in a set of eyelets.

Job's done. Makes a great vehicle even better.

I'm pretty sure the tailgate is the same size for the SIII and the SIII tailgat mount for the number plate will work
