It looks like an edic motor relay (fuel on/off). But you would wonder why they would leave it there if faulty.
I had lost my brake lights on the Perentie so today was fix day. Tracking chasing and research located a plug had come apart on the brake switch behind the master cylinder on the pedal box.
Whilst there I noticed a 'spare' relay, well maybe not spare but certainly not attached to any thing.
it looks like the one beside it which also don't know the purpose of. The fuse attached to the relay in use is the power fuse for the engine start/stop motor.
Can anyone tell me what it's for?
its almost like there's a connector block for it zip tied out of the way.

Left one is the alternator relay, and like bearman said the other is the edic motor. It looks like some has just bypassed it and put a jumper in.
I think the one on the left is an edic relay as well (even has the blade fuse) but can't understand why they just didn't remove the old one.

They do look the same, the one with the fuse is connected but there does seem to be a plug zip tied out of the way which if un zipped would plug straight in.
it's almost as if the wiring had been extended to the new relay. I may have to cut the zip tie to see more.

I don't think it is an alternator relay - don't think there is one.

Well the relay is for the light on the dash, the incandescent lamp is used as a load to excite the alternator.

Normally those two are the start relay and the start/stop 'EDIC' motor relay. Where does that fused wire from the EDIC motor relay come from?
At a guess, the Jideco relay failed and rather than finding a replacement they've used a conventional relay instead and hidden it somewhere else; probably behind the gauges.
