    bonnet release cable

I assume it's pretty straight forward swapping perentie bonnet latch to defender type cable?

I changed mine to a cable release. Then I changed it back again. Then I changed my other one which started off with a cable to a Stage One setup... It is a simple job, you just need to make sure you get the little clip thing and the cable holding gubbin. I'm sure I've posted part numbers before.

why did you decide to change it back again- other problem i have is mine keeps popping open which assuming is the spring tension?

The latch is adjustable in a few ways, getting it right can be a pain. I'd say the pin needs to be wound out a bit to make sure the latch is catching over the ridge in it. Either that or the spring in the latch is lazy or broken. The bonnet release lever should have some resistance to it and snap back to the closed position.

The crucial point is that changing from the lever to a cable won't fix that problem. The cable is fine, but they can eventually track water down into them and either snap or rust solid, both of which are minor problems but annoying when they happen. Let's put it this way; if you take the lever setup off you'll have a line of Defender owners waiting to buy it off you (me first please ).

I have tried winding the pin in/out a bit but will keep trialling with that to try find the "sweet" spot.

Anyone got a bonnet latch spring can take pic of as need to find one the same - the normal type springs they have auto parts place just don't work properly.
