    Flat panel sunroof

    Slightly off topic. I’m putting a hard top on my perentie. I managed to find a roof in good enough condition at a good price.

    It has a hole cut for a sunroof in the forward sloping section. All sunroofs that I’ve found available have a slight curve to them to fit modern cars.

    Any ideas how I can fill it? Haven’t come across one at a dismantler yet. Could I use a marine deck hatch?

    I suspect some of the caravan ones are suitable for flat roof scenarios. Cheers

    Personally I'd rivet a sheet of aluminium over the hole!

    None of the caravan ones would be big enough to cover the entire hole. All the aftermarket ones are a bit curved. No marine deck hatches I’ve found are appropriate (and they’re really expensive!).

    At the moment it seems to be a toss up between a sheet of UV perspex and a sheet of aluminium! Would be good to have something openable but rapidly heading towards the too-hard basket.

    Perspex would likely craze after a while. Lexan (polycarbonate) might be longer lasting, but would also turn your cab into a hothouse on a sunny day. I think the idea of the riveted aluminium panel sounds very good. Paste the cleaned mating surfaces with sikaflex to achieve a good weather proof seal.
