    Perentie sound deadening…best option?

Ok…after 10 years driving the Perentie (and working on TPE331’s to support my Landrover addiction)….my hearing is reaching a critical point. I just did a 875 km day trip in the Perentie and decided sound deadening is finally a MUST have….what is the best option for sound deadening which will not accumulate moisture and cause corrosion to those beautiful green cabin floor seat box and footwell panels? It’s either this or just wait until I’m deaf…then it wont be an issue anymore I suppose…?

for my OKA I got some Underdog sound deadening mat. OKAs tend to leak. I haven’t seen the mat accumulate water, but of course it could get under it.

I've just finished doing the bonnet of my Defender with that stuff, and it's overlaid with a Car-builders bonnet mat. I haven't driven it yet, but the difference in the sound of it closing after I'd refitted it, was very pleasing to say the least. I think if you plastered your bus with the same stuff you be pleased too.

While you will improve a Perentie with sound deadening at idle and general low speed driving, top end it wont be quiet.

Good quality earplugs or noise cancelling head phones is the best and cheapest options.

Lol. My son spent many a long day in lizards in Timor. He used to say that the only reason they were limited to 80 km/h was for OH&S noise considerations . I called BS cos the Army I remember didn’t give a **** about OH&S.

Your right up and details is awesome and I have read through it quite a lot....

    In saying that...
The Defender TDCi (2007 - 2016) is by far the quietest Defender model in standard form, i have customers that have gone down the path you have and yes its even more quiet than stock.

A Perentie is as far away from a last model Defender (2007 - 2016) as you can get while still calling them a 110/Defender.
light truck engine, canvas, some steel and alum, I have yet to see a sound proofed Perentie that you would call even marginally quiet.
Not as loud is the best I have driven

    Thanks Dazza.

Agreed, I think the best you could aim for with a Perentie is similar to what I did with my Lightweight: make a token effort to seal up the floor panel gaps and holes, a fairly liberal application of sound deadener/bitumastic pads and some foam/heavy layer.
Hopefully that knocks the edge of engine noise/transmission whine etc to make it bearable!
