Perentie LH dip beam not working

    Hi Everyone

    I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as I'm out of ideas;

    The Problem

    LH Dip Beam not working

    What I've checked so far

    Bulb - Good
    Fuse - Good
    12 V to bulb connector - Good
    Earth connection - Good

    My Thoughts

Not the switch as RH dip beam is fine.
Not the circuit between the fuse and the bulb as there's power to the Dip connection of the bulb connector.
The Earth connection tests good and it's shared with the High Beam which is working fine.
The bulb has been swapped out with a known good bulb.
All connectors/fuse holders etc have been cleaned and checked.

    Any thoughts/pearls of wisdom?

    Cheers

    Tim K

How are you checking that there is voltage at the socket?

If yoou are using a digital multimeter, it will show voltage even if there is a high resistance in the circuit. Check with a test light at least about 21W. If this is the situation, the most likely issue is at the fuse contacts or the fuse itself, but don't completely rule out a broken wire still making some contact or a bulb that may be "known" to be good, but actually has a broken filament that sometimes makes contact and works - rare but it happens.

Thanks John - That's a job for this afternoon. I'll let you know how I get on.

    Hi John

The test light sorted it out!

It turned out to be the bullet connector between the loom and the bulb connector - it was making enough contact to pass 12 volts but not enough contact to pass sufficient current to light the bulb.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Cheers

Thank you for telling us what you found. This sort of response encourages people to help others when they can.

In diagnosing electrical faults, this is a not uncommon problem - and while digital multimeters are a great innovation, this is something to always keep in the back of your mind.
