    Off Topic HTC Snap

My 12 year old son is obsessed with a particular 'phone. It's a HTC Snap S523. He's saved up $250 from birthday money and wants to buy one on EBay from HongKong or NZ. Does anybody know if this is likely to work on the Telstra 3G network? They're much dearer from Telstra.
Thnks in advance for any replies.

    Cheers Jules

    Personally I think he's mad blowing $250 on a phone as a 12 y.o

I wouldnt recommend eBay etc for phones...

Try to teach him that life exists without all the crap that phones bring

(going through it with 2x15 y.o sons)

    HI-JACK:

Who occasionally checks their kids phones to see what sort of messages are being sent? I did after some problems with one of the boys..

Lets just say, they break the law a LOT....

If he is thinking of buying a phone on Ebay, try to buy from an Australian seller. The phone itself may still be a grey import but at least you have a local mob to complain to if something goes wrong and you're covered by our local consumer protection laws. I bought my last phone from an Ebay mob but they had a regular, Australian shopfront in Sydney and just used Ebay as another outlet.

I've got a HTC snap and they're great phone/pda/organiser, whatever.
I've had IPAQ's, Palms, etc, this is by far the best.
No touch screen, which is what I wanted and Battery life is outstanding, it'll last for days. It's also small and great for my business.
They work on the Telstra 3G network.

I wouldn't get one for a 12yo, but just that's just my opinion.
They have good internet and email access - so he can rack up some huge data as well as phone bills.

As Solmanic said, buy off an Australian supplier, or someone based here.
I've bought phones/pda's off ebay before, and never had a problem, but do your homework.
I'd be wary of buying from OS, particularly Honkers or anywhere else in China. They may have lots of good feedback, but even that can be dodgy.
