    ICOM 400 Pro Question.

Can anybody tell me if the ICOM 400 Pro can be programmed to recieve the WA Bushfire/Emergency Services channels.
If so,is it in RX form only,or can they be programmed to TX aswell on these channels???
    Thanks

i would imagine so if they arent digital and or encrypted.

depends what channel setup you have, you can set them to RX with a low TX (1 watt) or medium TX (5 watt) or hi (25 watt)

from what i have seen if you want it in the bottom channels you have programmed in and want efecfftively an RX only then you program TX to low..

    using the #11 software

Its not encrypted, anybody with a scanner can pick it up.WA Police are just leaving the network, still can pick them up in the country!!!
The reason I ask is we are about to fit UHF 40ch sets to some of our gear.
We need the UHF,as we cant communicate with contractors/contract traffic controlers and truckies travelling thru worksites with our Tait units.
It would be handy if the new units COULD do both jobs.
How many "spare" channels are on the ICOM units????
The local(Narrogin) Tait dealer shut up shop lately so we are also stuck with a couple of dud Taits in some gear as we havent got a local fixerupperer.
    Thanks

If your channels are in the frequency range 450-500 Mhz it can be done. If you tell me the location of a repeater near you, I can look up the frequency.

They are a 128 channel unit which will leave 88 channels for other purposes.

If you use repeaters you will need to know the repeater offset and the CTCSS access codes for the repeater (if any).

The repeater on the fire station at Williams is low band VHF (appx66-88 MHz). There are also FESA WA repeaters at Barvise Rd (5.5km SW of Williams) which are low band and mid band (148-174 MHz)VHF Unfortunately neither will work on an IC400 Pro.

Your local police transmit on 468.000 MHz, which you can recieve on the IC400.

In QLD, many of the rural brigades use VHF. Some share UHF channels with the urban brigades.

Any chance our Tait radios actually can be programmed to UHF????
I only ask as you seem to be "In the know" with communications.
We could actually get UHF into some of our "modern" Tait units. There is a mix of them on the fleet.

You're probably referring to the Tait TM8260 ( yellow head??) which is a dual band radio (VHF high band and UHF) used by FESA WA. I'm fairly sure they can be programmed for UHF CB freqs.
