    Hey Andy.

You realise that the UHF spectrum is about to be re-alocated to 80 channels ? (76 actually).

All channels will be split in half, so there'll be a new channel in between all the current 40. (12.5k splis instead of the current 25k)

I'm holding off on the in disco unit, and in the interim, purchased a 128ch uhf/vhf 4/5watt fully programable hand held for the time being (for $127 delivered no less !!)

    FYI

Apparently the icom 440 doesn't .... which is what I almost bought.

Not enough dash real estate in the D2 for the 400

If you use repeaters you will need to know the repeater offset and the CTCSS access codes for the repeater (if any).

The 50MHz coverage can be shifted down.
Mine now covers from around 430MHz (amateur band) up so also does CB.
I also have some commercial frequencies in that I need.
They are a good solid unit, and you can vary the power in 3 steps up to 25W - actually that is the designed standard but it is possible to tweak it much higher, Why you would want to(?) no idea.

Fit the scrambler unit and talk in private

IIRC with the ICOM's, the lug on the back of the microphone needs to be earthed to enable scanning the pre/programmed channels, hence the length of wire with a ring terminal on it that comes in the box.....
