    rubber ducky!

Good day ladies and gentle folk.
Has anyone touched on these whips for when you are in convoy or in a group doing close work?http://www.4x4cb.com/public/item.cfm?itemID=707
And would it be possible to match the thread and then screw on a longer whip for maximised transmissions lengths.
This is my first foray into uhf/ hf set-ups as my only previous experience was Clansman kit in the 80's in the Royal signals.
In the bush what is your normal expected range in flat geology?
also is there a civvy version of skynet ?

    regards Andy

    Hi Andy,
tbh, I think that you are crazy sourcing an antenna from o/s. They, almost certainly, will be tuned for a different frequency range and, therefore, unsuitable for Oz frequencies.

I note that you refer to UHF/HF. There is NO WAY that one aerial will service these two frequencies.

Tell us what radio(s) that you have and we may be able to help.

    Best Wishes,
    Peter

Used to have one of those in the old AM CB days. Good if you are in a close convoy or bush driving with communications over short distances. Radio performance will be better with the UHF. I have a hand held UHF with a very short rubber aerial and it's excellent for around the town and even picks up some repeaters.
As Peter says, it may be better to source locally.

    Hi Andy,
I think that GaryCol's suggestion re Prestige Communications is a good one. Talk to them about your requirements and let us know their recommendations.

    Hi Lardy...

i have just installed one in the defender... and got a icom 400 pro.. bigger to find a space for in the cab as its a single slight sub din sized unit. i ended up cutting a neat slot in the dash under the stereo for it to sit in and its mounted to the metal shelf that runs under that section. Mounting is a prime consideration in the deefer. The 440 is a good bet also as you can mount it remote due to the speaker in the microphone..

As for purchase, i ended up getting mine from Repco as they were doing a 20% off for RAC members and it included radios... ended up being about $50 cheaper than prestige.. i go the antenna from prestige tho... they really are the cheapest!

i'll get some pics of my install if i can remember...

by the way, this is my first uhf... seems simple enough but i'm sure there is plenty of advanced stuff to get my teeth into..

    Thanks

    Steve
