    splitter for disco tweeter location????

    hey guys,
I was hoping that some electrical guru will see this post and help me out?

I am having a problem with my 01' Disco 2 ES.
It has 3 way speakers up front, and I have blown the left side 'A Pillar' tweeter. I replaced the one and it blew also!

My local stereo guys just wants to sell me new speakers and re-wire, but I'd rather stay original and try to find the issue. According to them it has 12 volts going through to the tweeter - WAY more than it should!

I looked at my Rave CD and its WAY over my head.....

Does anyone know of such a problem and a fix?

Or, does anyone know where I'll find the splitter box - assuming it has one - that the three individual speakers get their power from.

Any help would be much appreciated,

    regards
    Darian

If the other speakers are working ok than it must be a problem with the cross over. Unless of course it gets its signal direct from the amp. Sorry I only have the standard stereo system so cant tell you anymore.

I remember reading a few threads on people replacing their Harmon Kardon systems and they talked about amp and crossover locations.

Try to search for "stereo replacement" or "Harmon Kardon".

    thanks for that,
'Crossover' was the owrd I was looking for......
Unfortunatly it doenst have the Harmon Kardon system (I think later models could spec it) but has a hybrid Eurovox/Alpine system.

Ii always do a search before asking - I know its annoying seeing the same question on the web every week - but I just don't seem to be able to find anything that way.

Sorry mate, the '3 way front speakers' made me think you had the HK system.
You have two way front speakers and a separate pair in the back doors.
There will be a crossover, the first place I would look is in the front door - you can just unscrew the map pocket / speaker enclosure. Otherwise look behind the trim where the cabling from the fron door enters the car.

If you find the cross over is stuffed it might be just as cheap to buy an inexpensive pair of 'splits' (door speaker, crossover and tweeter) and replace yourself - problem solved and better sound!

    Goodluck
