as a number have said Tim is a one stop shop for the gear, and has all the Landrover related knowledge to help as well. CAn't reccomend him highly enough. For the D2 specifically, if your going to run a dual battery with a traxide controller then your second battery will be available for crank assisting, so for this reason, and power efficiency I ran large enough cable to accomodate this. The cable in the previous post is about right.

I have mounted my battery in the back left box in my D2. Two reasons. One, a lot of what is using the power from the second battery is back here, and two, I do my own oil changes and its hard enough getting the oil filter off as it is without putting a second battery in the way. The upside of the battery under the bonnet is the shorter main cable you need to run from the controller to second battery. As 4 gauge cable is about $14-15/meter this makes a difference.

All up I spent
$175 for the USI160 from Tim
$120 for cable, terminals etc
$50 for a deepcycle 90ah battery off ebay.


Another handy tip from others here was to mount the battery controller in the jack compartment behind the cranking battery, to give it some protection from the elements. the Jack now lives in the other rear box.

I have been getting reports from quite a few people who have tried to contact me by E-mail and I have not responded.

I have only just worked out that Optus’s spam filter is work too well and I found quite a few E-mails in my spam folder.

The problem is the spam folder only holds E-mails for 5 or 7 days.

I have yet to work out how to turn the spam filter off.

Anyway, I will be posting up a Defender specific SC80 kit in the next day or two and I can supply a modified version for any Land Rover so just let me know what you need and I’ll put a kit together for you.
