Hi All,

I am about to build myself a 3 way power distribution box - now that I have discovered a Jaycar at the bottom of my road (well almost!). Plus it will come in handy to power my 380W inverter and UHF on my Trans - Australian Trip.

So here goes - list of parts:

- 3 x 30Amp fuse holders
- 3 x 30Amp Fuses
- 3 times Positive/Negative Bindings
- 1 x grey enclosed, sealed box with mounting flange
- 1 x pack of cable glands
- 1x 1m of 30amp red automotive cable
- 1 x 1m of 30amp black automotive cable
- 1 x 1m of 90amp red battery cable (Still to get)
- 1 x 1m of 90amp black battery cable

If you can follow this very rough wiring diagram, it will look a little like this:

The inverter is a 380W pure sine wave job, which states that it has a current draw of 38Amps under 380W load. I am using a 30Amp fuse - why? It was a guestimation made in the shop, and i do not think I will every draw that from it at this stage...it will be for charging camcorders, cameras, mobile phones and laptops (not all at the same time!)

Since all the power takes off are fused to 30amp, the max current draw will be in the order of 3 x 30amp = 90amp, so this is what I am basing the rating for the cable that goes to the battery. I'm no genius in electrics here...but does that sound right?

I have used the screw type holders that will be accessible from outside the box, which will be sealed - mostly from dust.

Now all I have to do is work out where to drill the holes and mount all the goodies, cut and crimp wires....and take photos.

It should then be a relatively sealed unit that can simply be bolted to the dexion racking, or anywhere of my choosing.
