Thread: CTEK XS7000 Battery Charger supply mode?

Aren't DC to DC chargers used to charge a second battery that has accessories running off it.

Doing what you want to do, you may as well just run it from your battery.

In my case I have a heavy cable running to the back with an anderson point. this point is used to charge the dual battery while driving, or to plug in compressor. I have the same charger, it's mostly connected to the second battery, but every few months I hook it up to starter through the anderson in the rear.

I'm not exactly sure but I think the supply mode is just to keep the computer and electricals happy when you need to remove the battery from those fancy new cars.



I've been running this set up for almost a year now, I installed a ctek socket to the outside of the truck and just plug the charger in. Touch wood, no problems so far.

Agree Baz about may as well use the battery, however, in my case the 2nd battery is about dead, it falls below 12v almost straight away (it's an Odyssey PC1700) but it will keep the fridge going for some time like that??

Anyway, whilst camping this weekend I've been on a powered site, figured I'd plug the charger in, connect it to the 2nd/ nearly dead battery and keep feeding it 13.6v in supply mode.
This has allowed me to keep the laptop running, fridge & LED lights all weekend without my low voltage alarm going off. Sweet.

I don't think you should run the charger in supply mode with a battery connected,it could over charge the battery,while you are running things(fridge etc.) you might get away with it but in that mode it supplies a constant 7amps,I would run it in normal mode so when nothing is running the charger will drop the amps back,also in supply mode the battery may not fully charge because the charger does not go through its charge cycles
I think you should check the manual and get some more advice.

I know batteries don't last forever, but I feel I have extended the life of a few by using the CTEC's recondition feature.

I have two PC1700's. One of which is the "Full Metal Jacket" version. It's 10 or 11 years old now and turns the TD5 over in a heart beat.

The other PC1700 is the normal everyday type and this is the 2nd one that's died. As a second battery they are lasting about 4-5 years with minimal / no preventative maintenance.


So back to the question raises earlier, supply mode or charge mode? Noting that charge mode for these batteries is 16V, that would over feed my 12V equipment wouldn't it.

When I do a proper charge I always take the battery out I the car.
