    TPG mobile coverage in the bush?!?

    Hi all,

    I am curently on Telstra prepaid, however realising i am being none other than ripped off i have started looking around at plans, (brought on by the immersion of my old mobile), TPG have a $10 plan that is BYO phone, so i was thinking i would get a nice water resistant phone , then get this TPG plan, however i do spend a lot of time in the country (around the Young and Wagga Wagga areas of NSW), what i would like to ask is if anyone lives out in the bush and uses TPG what kind of coverage they get compared to Telstra Next G which i use now, if its gonna be bad, i might have to get another sim and just use the telstra one when i am up at the farm for harvest if the coverae is no good.

    the reason it's dearer is that they have country coverage where as the rest service higher density areas..

    you go bush you pretty much need telstra...

    bundle it with a few other things and prices come down a bit..

    As Dave says - in the bush = no choice except Telstra, and they do not allow their service to be resold, so you can't get it under any other name.

    I am using Virgin (Optus), both phone and broadbrand, I have used it all across Australia from the Perth to the east coast and have not had any trouble. Am presently in Tassie and the only places I have had trouble is in remote areas where we couldn't get mobile coverage with Testra either. I have been with Virgin for about 4 years now and haven't had any trouble at all, I am just a happy costumer. Hope this helps.

    It depends where you are. But to give an example, here, where the 10th anniversary NSW meeting was held, Telstra is the only coverage. And this is not really remote at all, less than 60km from one of Australia's largest inland towns, and close to a major highway.

    I am with Optus and it has poor coverage compared to Telstra - drive north from Canberra towards Cowra and Orange and coverage is lost at Borowa while Telstra continues.

    Out west of NSW up into NE SA and SW Qld - optus drops out at Bourke never to be heard of again where Telstra comes in and out depending on the town.

    If you are out west and indeed maybe not so far out west - Telstra is really the only option if you want some coverage - but it does cost and customer service is not good but Optus service is not good either.

    I have found the cost of Telstra to be quite reasonable now. It never used to be the case for sure. My ipad is prepaid on $100 a year for 12gb. My phone is $59 a month with $500 calls and 1.5gb data and my adsl $70 a month for 2+ and 100gb data. I was paying similar with Vodafone and Exetel for a greatly inferior service. In fact my total bill is cheaper now and no complaints because when I go out into the boonies I have reception in the most unexpected places.

    I know what you mean Garry re: coverage near Boorowa, where the farm is at Grenfell its not great either, the main reason i wanted to go with a 'cheaper' supplier is the price, i am only 17 and don't use the phone too much, so i wanted a plan, even a $29 dollar plan would be acceptable, but if its gonna cost too much i may aswell stay on prepaid, just buy a voucher every second time i fill up the Discovery (or buy a bigger voucher), thanks for your replies everyone. I think Telstra will be the go, maybe i'll go in-store and see what they say, maybe they have a special students plan or something.
