    Pioneer head unit to replace High-line Discovery 2 system

    Hi there,

    I know it's probably a FAQ somewhere but I cannot find a definitive answer to my question.

    I have been given a Pioneer DEH-6450BT head unit for my birthday and was wondering what I need to account for when fitting to my 2002 DII (This one has the high-line factory system with rear door sub, rear headphone jacks, CD changer under drivers seat etc.)

    I have already removed the Alpine Radio Casette head unit with the suspension files tool

    If I get a standard DIN to Pioneer harness adapter, will this work as is, or will I need to perform some surgery to disable the existing amps etc.?

    I would like to be able to utilise the rear sub (better than nothing, and no spare room due to 7 seats!) but I am not fussed about the dual headphone controls, nor the steering wheel controls if it's too hard to adapt.

    Or is it best to cut off the factory plugs and solder direct to the Pioneer loom? In which case, what are the crucial wire colours?

    Finally, can anyone recommend somewhere that does the DII radio filler kit to fill up that little hole that will be under the new radio?

    Any advice most welcome!

    no one can answer this?

    Hi there, finally got around to trying to fit this - found a Pioneer to Euro connector adapter lead at Super Cheap Auto for $15 - was really excited to try it out so plugged it all in, and got power and all looked good, but totally silent...

    I'm thinking the wires, although right, are going to a seperate amp somewhere and it's just not set up for this sort of head unit input (or is perhaps not switched on because the third multiplug on the loom is not connected), so not entirely surprised

    So, next question is: Where is this amp physically in the car and apart from running new cables, is there a way to bypass this and effectively go direct to the door speakers? I am sure the amp inside the new Pioneer is likely to be better that the seperate 10-year old LR Amp!

    If anyone has already done this, thanks in advance for some advice!

    Does fm radio play through the speakers. If so you got the hugely common problem with after market harnesses and you'll need to swap over the headunit electric aerial and headunit remote on leads. Amplifier needs to be turned on by remote on wire
