Appears the UV6G would work ... compare the spec's .... you'd need the one that runs 420-520 UHF .... main difference is 199 channels, instead of 128

    .... $145US vs $110US.

As for more difficult, never had hands on one, but by the spec' I'd expect it to be very similar.

Excuse the ignorance, but is the 136/174 mHz capability legal to have in a transceiver if the user is'nt licenced in that band ? - Yes, I know the VHF-marine lives at 156/157mHz, no doubt useful to have programmed in if you hang around the coast as well.

    Thanks

I got the rainproof speaker/mic, and an extra aerial (radio mounted).

For convoy work, I don't need an external aerial.

The aerial unscrews so an external aerial cable can be connected if required - will then have range typical of any UHF. I have purchased 12v power supply that replaces the battery for use in the car (the desktop charger is not good to use in the car - but then the battery does last a long time) , there is a 80 channel programming kit available (I have it but not used it yet) and a cheap knock-off of a Motorola speaker mic - this is not good so get the real Motorola version.

As a portable, you cannot go past this - especially for the price.

I have the same unit in my ute I rate it highly also good to hear the local plods

I finally decided it was time to purchase...

    Just ordered:
    1 x KG-UVD1P UU DUAL BAND TX/RX 136-174MHz/420-520Mhz
    1 x USB interface cable
    1 x Car Battery Eliminator

As recommend by others on here, I'll get a good quality speaker/mic to go with it for use in the Disco. Anyone have recommendations/links?
