Own up, who's got a ham licence?

I'm not a ham but I am a radio tech. I look after one of the ameture repeaters on Mt Arthur in the hunter Valley and have another to put in further up the valley where I have my own mid band repeater as I am sick of putting up with the crap on the chook band (CB). My father has a licence VK2SO and also know several more who have been pressuring me to get one. The WIA will let me get RPL but still want me to do the practical??? and be tested by someone who has less qualifications than I do and wouldn't have seen some of the test gear that I use on a daily basis. Would be handy though after the way VKS737 treated me I handed back my licence and therfore cannot legally us my Barrett any more. Good hobby though so much to learn. Tim

Currently VK4BS, previously VK3YJO then VK3DLH. Also hold licence for VK4RPH.


Have a series 2a FFR which will be back on the road soon...

In the 1980s was VK2NRZ. I built a decoder to download/print weather charts, played chess over morse and spoke to a guy in Oslo on 30W. Then I got into computers/electronics and later mobile/satellite phones came out - so I gave it up.

Also having got around to putting anything in the Defender, but eventually will have the IC2820 and IC7000, and maybe a VHF for APRS...

My licence is not a full HAM licence, didn't get up to speed with the morse back in the 80's when it was a requirement. Mine is classed as a permanent portable licence with the call sign VJN49. We have a radio at home and a second in the vehicle.

We have used this in anger twice, once to get a care flight chopper to a motorbike accident on the Putty Road about 15 years ago and another time to get the flying doctor to a road works crew incident (fell out of his truck drunk) out of Kulgera about 20 years ago, Both calls were made through relay.
