    Bent Aerial

While having fun a few weekends ago, discovered I'd smacked a branch with my UHF aerial and bent it. It normally points straight up. It appears to be broken at the base.
I've probably transmitted with it like this, so I guess it must be working OK but I'm concerned that it might have resulted in there being no effective aerial on the transmitter. I understand that transmitting with no load can damage the radio.
Is there any way I can test the aerial to see if it is working OK?

    Testing testing helllooo

    Hi Coop

The aerial can be checked quickly by using a VSWR meter that is made for the frequency band of the aerial.
Try and find a Amateur Radio operator with one, as it is a easy check. The radio needs to have it's aerial socket exposed so the fly leads of the VSWR meter can be fitted for the test.

Thanks wrinklearthur. I'll contact an acquaintance who may have that gear and see if he can help,
    Cheers,
