    Original cassette/radio unit Discovery 1995

    HI There,

I am the peoud owner of the v8i 1995 discovery, I have two questions, how do I disassemble the original radio unit to fit a better one? Do I need a special key to take the unit out? The aerial, is it one of those that come out only when the radio is turned on?? if not where can I find a new aerial?

    Cheers
    Chris

In answer to the first part of the question - there are special "tools" which slip into holes in the face of the mount and depress tabs inside the housing which allows the radio to then be drawn out from its bracket.

You can pay for these or do as I did and use some long wooden kebab skewers.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

As said any long skinny thing that fits in the two holes will release the radio. You can use screw drivers, alan keys or a wire coat hanger. Just press them in and you will feel it release. Give each side a bit of a pull at the same time.

Any single Din type radio will fit. If you have an electric aeial most radios have an output for them. you should not need to replace the aeial.

    Question

Thanks everyone. Managed to pull the radio out, however the aerail is broken, snapped right at the bottom, but when I unscrewed the bolt to get the rest out, it fell inside and tried for over two hours to get it out, it seem that the side panel has to be removed in order to get it out or may be able to fit a new aerial somehow. :s
