Mine goes out thru the cable gland above acc. forward towards headlight out thru rad support across behind grill to bull bar.
The aerial I got has a small joiner along the cable to make it easier to pass thru firewall.
Cost me about 60 from supercheap.

Anyone mounted a UHF in the existing Discovery (D1) roof console?
If so did you have to drill speaker holes, how did you mount it, etc ?
In a D2 but same radio. have the base unit stuck with double sided take to the inside of the tray under the steering column, the face unit is mounted in the small opening in the roof consul on the right. Mic comes cou through a hole drilled just under the LH twist clip that keeps the under tray up and pulled the lower two blanks of the LH binacle switches to mount the mic clip which keeps the cable away from your leg.
Speakers in the base unit but more than audible. Ran the coax through the accelerator grommet, across the firewall and forward then behind headlight and out under anything removable.
I had the TX3200 mounted in the roof console. It sat in the larger hole above the driver. Sat there without any mounting brackets. A bit hard to read though. I ran a wire from the extension speaker plug down the A pillar to a speaker mounted on the dash.Quote:

Thing is I want as clean an instal as possible but the pod I COULD use for the dash would be a really chunky way of going about it and the mike cord would be in the way of... well... everything.
The radio was not unsupported. To fit it I had to drop the screws holding the console to the roof, fit the radio in the hole and re secure the console. It was held behind the lip. You will need an extension speaker though or drill a few holes under the speaker. The mic hangs under the mirror on the mic clip fitted to the blanking plate on the console.Quote:

The cross bar between switch holes, drill to suit the mounting bolts for the mic clip. Drill as far down as possible (yeah I know) and the mic clears the switch above. Put a twist (CCW) into the cable and it sits up off your leg.
better for antenna to be on the roof in the gutter.
higher position = better LOS
and less cable between antenna and unit - less db loss = better signal
