    do people still use CB?

it has been a very long time since I spoke to anyone on any sort of radio. I am rebuilding my 1961 SWB while waiting for the funds to rebuild the donk. As such I am stripping bits and pieces. I had a Clarion 18 Channel CB in the car, do people still use these or should I place in right hand and throw over left shoulder and get something somewhat more up to date. Which leads to the next question - what is up to date?

18 channel Clarion, you could probably sell it to Noah the way it's raining here he'll be along soon.

I don't think too many users would be on 27meg CB. If you want to head down the line of a new CB, then you need to get an 80 ch UHF. GME, Icom are pretty good brands

27meg is making a comeback of sorts...... In a niche sort of way.
I have a 40 channel SSB in the RRC that is fun to listen to at times.

I have a 40 channel UHF, but recently, I put my old AM cb back in as an alternative. I may never use it, but the AM and UHF radios have different transmission characteristics. AM can carry a lot furhter than uhf, but it sounds like crap, where the uhf is usually only effective over a few kms.

I've got a Kraco 27 mHz set up in my shed in Kal. Don't turn it on much, and never hear anyone on am - occasionally get a few on SSB but more often than not, they're not in Australia.

Have a few others in the shed, including one with a lot more than the legal number of channels, but haven't used any of them for years. Have been thinking of setting one up in the house and another in the son's house across the other side of town. Cheaper than using the phone and not a lot of chance of others listening in ...........
    Cheers .........

Many moons ago I used a sideband for week-end conversations with a mate - whilst he was living in SA. Worked well and saved a heap in STD phone calls !

Still got an old AM set languishing in my shed...

Have dear old Dad's old Kraco in the shed and have been wondering if it's worthwhile using it in the Defender, but then i don't have a UHF CB either, and i still haven't fitted the old Codan HF I have either
