Reversing camera power and placement help

    Hey all

This is my first post on these forums and I was wondering if anybody could help my with my new wireless reversing camera kit.
I have a 96 discovery and I can get the camera to work using the reverse light wiring but I want to be able to mount the camera outside the car just above the tow-bar.
I cannot find a grommet into the cab from outside.

any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mick, follow down from under the right hand rear light cluster, underneath the body, there's a rubber grommet there, where the trailer electrics go in.

    And welcome to the forum

I will check it out in the morning.
will I be able to access the reverse light wire easily using this grommet?

Brands of After Market Reverse Camera

    Hello Mick458,

This is a thread hijack to avoid cluttering up the forum too much - my apologies Mick 458,

I would like some user reviews on different types of after market reverse cameras. Lately when I am hitching the trailer up on Rebus - my Series 3 Long Wheel Base ute with a canopy on the back I am the only one at home. This means I have to climb in and out of Rebus a couple times so I don't bump the apron below the tailgate and bend back when it hits the tow hitch on the trailer like the previous owners have done in the past.

I spent a day straightening out all the dents on the apron where the six signal lights are mounted. So I would like to keep it nice and straight.

A reverse camera mounted near the tow hitch would be a good thing to have. Plus being able to see where the trailer is going before it jack knifes would be good too. Lots of things can go wrong before the side mirrors pick it up. A reverse camera would make solo reversing into awkward places a lot easier.

What brands of after market reverse cameras have people used and how happy are you with them?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Ebay $49 wireless.OK and does the job.

Sometimes the camera doesn't transmit without interference but 95% of the time it is fine and it seems to sort itself out pretty quickly.

I have a D2 with the camera attached to the numberplate and the transmitter inside the tailgate under the trim. The 4 inch screen is mounted behind the Rear view mirror with the receiver on the windscreen shelf of the D2.
    Regards Philip A

    G'day Philip,

Thank you for the reply. What brand was you eBay buy? I only thought about the concept of getting a camera this morning and I have not done much research about them.

If it avoids my having to re-straighten the apron again - yes again it will be well worth the effort and cost of getting a camera.

I learnt the hard way yesterday afternoon that while there are no clearance issues with my vertically mounted spare tyre on the draw bar of the trailer when I tow it with my Commodore it is a totally different story while using the same trailer with Rebus the Series 3 LWB tray back. The tow ball is under the tray so this meant the draw bar clearance was reduced.

One spare tyre on the trailer pressing against the apron and bending it and the specially built steel box which did its job and protected the three signal lamps. Now I just have to straighten the apron and the steel protection box. With the canopy on the back the mirrors did not show anything going wrong - I just felt it

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
