I've found a Trans Temp sensor that works,,(there are 3) only problem it reads EXACTLY what the eng coolant reads, including the moment by moment changes.

Was so impressed with this thread, I went out and bought one straight away. Can pair and connect but keeps telling me can't log onto vehicle ECU (ie blue car never stops flashing).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a Disco 2a (2004). How long should it take to connect?

Presumptions can be dangerous, I presumed ECUflash or something similar had worked on a Land Rover ECU

You may be in trouble here Mal. TD5 D2's are not OBD2 compliant I believe

Obviously more research should have been done by me. Oh well, it only cost $15 so no real harm done.

Terrific bit of kit! Been using it now for a few months and the maxed-out LTF at 25% on a recent trip alerted me to a broken PCV fitting which was sucking in air and causing the mixture to lean right out -> cylinder misfires...

Last week I drove from BNE-SYD and left the dongle plugged in for the entire trip recording via Bluetooth on a Samsung tablet. I thought I was just recording fuel trims but when I looked at "Maps" while connected to the internet, the route appeared on a map. Then, when I magnified the route to approx 5km scale, there were the vehicle speeds (to one decimal place!!) posted every few hundred metres along the route which gave me the variation whilst on cruise control... I didn't realise it had this capability... Could be handy (or not!) in the event of a contested speeding claim...

I've tried it out on the P38, a 2005 Astra 1.8 auto, and a mate's Volvo s40... a neat party trick for the uninitiated especially with just a mobile phone and dongle...

They do actually have a limited degree of support. You should be able to read/clear DTC's, and read PIDs for RPM, Speed, Calculated Load, Throttle %.

Defender TD5's have no support AFAIK.

Thanks good to know, but I can't seem to get it to talk to the ECU at all. As I said before, will pair and connect but no log onto ECU. I have a BD chip upgrade - could that be the reason?
