This guy pretty much sums Dash cams up. Especially about all the gimmick add ons that are basically useless, like g sensors.

I would like to get a reasonable dash cam, so I can cull the video for pics for here and home. Do I want a Gopro or is that over the top.
This is something I know nothing about, your advice please.
There is a mob called dash cams Australia Google their website. They sell a heap of different ones from cheap to crazy expensive. Honestly it just confused me. I would like one too. One day someone is going to cut me off and I'm not going to care enough to avoid them, I want it on camera
I have DVRs mainly for recording road incidents, not for filming / editing etc of trips. So the cameras are not 1080 hd. They are 120 degree lens etc.
I've tried 3 different styles so far (on 4 different cars). Suction cap styles don't stay on (I was going to say they sucked, but that would have been confusing). So an adhesive style works better.
Don't get the flip down screen style as they take up too much real estate and block the view. Battery cover is also very flimsy. I use this on my mates 4wd when we work on his property as we aren't looking for things in the paddock. See this for the style http://www.dx.com/p/h-264-720p-wide-...7#.VLOfL8s_7qA
The camera with screen on the back and infrared emitters is good but suction cap style and requires 5volt usb power input. See http://www.dx.com/p/mini-1-5-tft-5-0...n-black-156601 for the style.
Best to date is cylindrical with no built-in screen and double sided adhesive for the windscreen. See this for style. http://www.dx.com/p/mini-gs608-1-5-t...7#.VLOfy8s_7qA. The style in the link has a camera, which would be better. Power supply required is 12v, so you can hardwire into the car, not 5v usb power input. 5v usb ppwer supply can dislodge too easily.
From about 30 for the camera without screen, 20 up for a 4.5 inch screen if you need / want one in the car. My screen is portable do i can do setups and fault finding. 32G micro SD.
Downsides are trying to position it on the windscreen - one go to get it right and finding the required power supplies. Needs both ign on and ign off power, so it can record if the car gets a bump in the car park.
I have been using Blackvue Dash cams for a couple of years. They are one of the better Dash Cams on the market.
There is an Australian seller who matches the FleBay prices and they have very quick delivery.
Hi,
I'm running an Android tablet with Sygic for a navigator and noticed one of the add-on features is a 'black box' video recording option using the tablet's own camera.
Link to info
I haven't purchased it though, but the info may be of use to you.
cheers
i have a BlackVue dash cam.
i recommend.
Have a look at this site;-
Replay XD Australia - Prime X, 1080 Mini - HD Action Cameras
Very high quality pictures and the Australian distributor is both knowledgeable and helpful.
A lot of the 4WD racers have these cameras mounted. Live TV footage from awkward positions around the 4wd circuits usually comes from these cameras as well.
whos got one?
what model?
any good footage?
ive got one in 1 of my cars, just too expensive to have them in all the cars
and the difference between them and a Go Pro?
(My apologies to all, When I posted there were NO posts before Eevo,,)
