    Traxide SC80

    Hi

I am looking at fitting one of these to my P38 and am wondering about wiring.

Does anyone think I need to run both + and - from my main battery or is a good earth to the chassis going to do the job for the negative?

Also is 4AG wire heavy enough for the job?

    Regards
    Steve

Ring or PM Tim (drivesafe) he's always happy to help.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

That will be Tim. . . . . He's on the forum but also on the end of the phone line.

I called him last week for advice and to purchase USI 160 kit. He's a great help.

    Hi

Yes I spoke to him and purchased the SC80-CB kit, very helpful guy!

He confirmed I don't need separate earth as long as I get a good chassis connection

That's how mine is Steve. I've the battery earthed to the drivers side rear body mount, and ran a second earth lead from the shock tower to the negative main battery post (probably not necessary).

I spoke to several auto elecs as I wasnt really happy about doing that, but they all assured me it'd be fine - which it has so far.

I used 2 awg cable as I've got the winch, but was told 4awg cable would be fine.

    Hi Mate

    Good info thanks

Since I am not planning to run a winch, Tim suggested that 6awg would be enough.

Just curious, where did you run the wire?

I have an 8wg cable I ran internally, but I am tossing up whether to run the bigger cable that way or externally along the chassis

13mm ID electrical conduit attached to the chassis rails with "jubilee" screw clips works well. With the wire(s) in place, just seal the ends with a glob of silicone sealant. Also, once the wires are in, apply some (gentle!) heat with a heat gun and you can bend the conduit to follow the chassis contours.

Wouldnt it be better to run the conduit with a pull through init and use that to pull the cabling through AFTER buggerising around with the heat and bending ?
