    Windscreen antenna for UHF - CB

    Has anyone seen or tried these ?

    Maybe mounted in the centre of the screen, high up from behind the rear-view mirror. At 200mm (8") it should'nt be tooo obvious.

    I'd guess it is only for short-range comms...

    But I can vouch for this.

    I use one with my Icom IC-41 handheld when in the car.

    Works well.

    Pictured.

    Two whips. Long and short range.

    Wiring was already there for 800Mhz analogue mobile window mount aerial.

    Stripped out old 800Mhz window mount shunt box.

    Bought an rfi 400 mhz window mount and had it tuned to 477Mhz.

    Iv got a couple of mates in the comms industry and they don't speak to highly of them, but it will work just not as well as a more conventional antenna. The problem lies in the passive connection through the windscreen

    Yes that was my info too... the 'through-glass' setup loses a fair bit (when compared to a wired antenna)

    The stick-on one gets around this by being on the INside, giving the better connection (Obviously!) and also keeps sticky fingers and/or branches away.

    Arrr I should have looked at the link first before putting my opinion out there opps

    These are similar to the ones used on the back window of the extra undercover police cars in wa. I'm told quite good but a bit directional. Would certainly be a great advantage in scrubby bushy areas. If you fit it I would be very interested in how it goes and what you think of it

    We use these on our work cars for testing the train radio system. I can talk over 40km at 5w without a problem. You can tune them to get the correct VSWR via the grub screw. A good way to have a discrete antenna.
