    Defender radio replacement question

    Hi,
I want to replace the stereo in my 2012 Defender but have been led to believe (by Repco)that there are no readily available wiring adapters/connectors allowing for other stereo makes to be fitted. I was told I would have to wire the radio in manually. I was also told this is the same for the Discovery but there was an adapter available for the Freelander. I find it hard to believe that there would be different wiring/connectors for different models of the same make. Is this correct? If so would appreciate advice on any stereo makes that I could look at that wouldn't require soldering. Thanks.

Did you manage to remove the OE radio yet?

yep, got it out using nails since I couldn't find a coat hanger. Am driving back to Canberra next week (from Adelaide) so was hoping for a new stereo by then, but since I am at my parents with no tools to speak of I can't wire a new radio manually so looks like the old radio is here to stay for a little while longer.

    New radio

Hi there, I fitted a Pioneer head unit to our MY11 Defender & had no problems sourcing the correct adapter harness from the supplier. Try Autobarn as they had a harness listing to go off.

I have a 2006 Defender and looking to replace the radio/CD. Spoke to Alberts in Joondalup for a quote. $600 for a new Kenwood, new rear speakers moved to centre of vehicle and installed. Unit has USB input and aux input. $100 to install sounds like 100 less problems for me.

An update on Defender radio replacement. Having removed the radio from my 2012 Defender I discovered that the radio was attached with a standard ISO wiring harness ie two plugs and an aerial socket. Replacing the radio was therefore very simple as I only needed to buy an aerial connector (European female to ISO DIN) and the relevant ISO to radio connector.

I purchased a sony stereo so popped into autobarn today and bought a Sony 16 Pin plug connector. Everything then fitted together very easily.

Despite earlier concerns, not helped by my initial advice from the local store, replacing the Defender radio was very easy with all parts readily available.

Thanks all for your earlier advice.
